ΑΝΔΡΕΑΣ ΕΥΣΤΑΘΙΟΥ

Την Παρασκευή 9 Δεκεμβρίου στις 7μμ εγκαινιάζεται η νέα ατομική έκθεση του Ανδρέα Ευσταθίου. Η έκθεση θα διαρκέσει μέχρι τις 31 Δεκεμβρίου 2022.

Ο Ανδρέας Ευσταθίου γεννήθηκε το 1964 στο χωριό Λάρνακας της Λαπήθου, στην επαρχία Κερύνειας, στην Κύπρο. Το 1989-1994 σπούδασε στη Νέα Υόρκη στο New York Studio School και στο Ridgewood Art Institute. Τελειώνοντας τις σπουδές του επέστρεψε στην Κύπρο. Το 2007, ο Ευσταθίου και ο Στας Παράσκος άνοιξαν το Κολλέγιο Τέχνης Cornaro Art Institute στην Λάρνακα, και ο Ευσταθίου άρχισε να διδάσκει ενώ συνέχιζε την καλλιτεχνική του καριέρα. Το 2017, με τον θάνατο του αγαπημένου του φίλου Παράσκου και τις προκλήσεις που αντιμετώπιζε το Κολλέγιο Τέχνης, ο Ευσταθίου αποφάσισε να μετακομίσει στη Λεμεσό. Έκτοτε, ζει και εργάζεται στη Λεμεσό, διατηρώντας ένα πολιτιστικό κέντρο το οποίο ονόμασε Cornaro Art Institute προς τιμή του αείμνηστου συναδέλφου του.

Τα έργα του Ευσταθίου έχουν περάσει από τον ρεαλισμό στην αφαιρετικότητα, και από τις ζωντανές χρωματικές παλέτες σε ασπρόμαυρους και απαλούς χρωματισμούς. Η θεματολογία του είναι ευρεία, αφού είναι επηρεασμένη από τις προσωπικές του εμπειρίες και τη συναισθηματική του κατάσταση. Οι εκφραστικές και δυναμικές πινελιές του συχνά αντικατοπτρίζουν τον θαυμασμό του για τον Γουίλεμ ντε Κούνινγκ, ενώ η ανθρωποκεντρική προσέγγισή του, είτε με την απουσία είτε με την αφαιρετική απεικόνιση ανθρωπίνων μορφών, υποδηλώνει τον βαθύ του σεβασμό προς τον Αλμπέρτο Τζιακομέτι.

Η ατομική έκθεση του Ευσταθίου στην Γκαλερί Μορφή περιλαμβάνει πίνακες από τη σειρά Καντέντσα και Η Παράσταση Συνεχίζεται, και από την θεματική Η Λήδα και ο Κύκνος. Επίσης, παρουσιάζεται ο πίνακας Αικατερίνη Κορνάρο, ένα πορτρέτο όπου απεικονίζεται η τελευταία βασίλισσα της Κύπρου, και που πρόσφατα δωρίσθηκε από τον καλλιτέχνη στο Cornaro Art Institute. Ως παράγωγο αυτού του πίνακα, ο Ευσταθίου δημιούργησε 98 fine art prints.

ANDREAS EFSTATHIOU

The new art exhibition of Andreas Efstathiou opens on Friday 9 December at 7pm. Duration of the exhibition until 31 December 2022.

Andreas Efstathiou was born in 1964, in the village Larnakas tis Lapithou in the district of Kyrenia, Cyprus. During the period of 1989-1994 he studied in New York at the New York Studio School and The Ridgewood Art Institute.  Upon finishing his studies, he returned to Cyprus. In 2007, Efstathiou and Stass Paraskos opened the Art College Cornaro Art Institute in Larnaca, and Efstathiou went into teaching while continuing to pursue his artistic career. In 2017, with the passing of his dear friend Paraskos and the challenges that the Art College had been facing, Efstathiou decided to move to Limassol. Since then, he has been living and working in Limassol, running a cultural centre which he named Cornaro Art Institute in loving memory of his late fellow artist.

Efstathiou’s works have evolved from realism to abstraction, and from vibrant colour palettes to black-and-white shades and soft hues. His subject matters are varied, as they are heavily influenced by his personal experiences and emotional state. His gestural and powerful brushstrokes mirror his fascination with Willem de Kooning, while his anthropocentric approach, either by the absence or by the abstract depiction of human figures, suggests his deep respect for Alberto Giacometti. 

Efstathiou’s solo exhibition at Gallery Morfi includes paintings from the series Cadenza and Show Must Go On, and from the subject Leda and the Swan. Additionally, the painting Caterina Cornaro - a portrait of the last queen of Cyprus - will be on display. The artist recently gifted the portrait to the Cornaro Art Institute and created 98 fine art prints.
