Ο ΖΗΝΩΝΑΣ ΤΖΕΠΡΑΣ ΣΤΗ ΜΟΡΦΗ

Την Τετάρτη 6 Ιουνίου,  στις 7:30μμ,  η γκαλερί Μορφή στη Λεμεσό (www.morfi.org) παρουσιάζει την τελευταία δουλειά του Ζήνωνα Τζέπρα.

Ο Ζήνωνας Τζέπρας γεννήθηκε στο Κάρδιφ της Ουαλίας το 1969 από Έλληνες γονείς που κατάγονται από την Κέρκυρα και την Κύπρο. Σπούδασε ζωγραφική́ στην Σχολή́ Καλών Τεχνών της Γλασκώβης και αποφοίτησε με διάκριση. Ζεί και εργάζεται στο Λονδίνο.

Η ζωγραφική του Ζήνωνα Τζέπρα θα μπορούσε να χαρακτηριστεί ως ανθρωποκεντρικός εξπρεσιονισμός. Οι ανθρώπινες φιγούρες δεσπόζουν σε όλα τα έργα του, ενώ ο περιβάλλων χώρος αποδίδεται ως ουδέτερη ζωγραφική επιφάνεια, ενίοτε ως απροσδιόριστος εσωτερικός χώρος ή, σπανιότερα, ως εξίσου απροσδιόριστος εξωτερικός χώρος. Συνειδητά θεατρικίζουσες παραστάσεις, όπου σύγχρονες προς εμάς κοινωνικοπολιτικές καταστάσεις παρουσιάζονται με ένα διαχρονικό μανδύα, οι καταβολές του οποίου εντοπίζονται, κατά κύριο λόγο, στην αρχαιοελληνική μυθολογία. Γενικά, η όλη δουλειά του Τζέπρα, μπορεί να ενταχτεί στο χώρο της σύγχρονης νέο-παραστικότητας, η οποία ανάγει μεν τις καταβολές της στον μοντερνισμό, αλλά ταυτόχρονα συνεχίζει τη ζωγραφική παράδοση, ανανεώνοντας την, μέσα στη σημερινή μετα-μοντέρνα συνθήκη. ZENON JEPRAS AT MORFI

On Wednesday 6 June at 7:30pm, Morfi gallery in Limassol (www.morfi.org) presents the new work of Zenon Jepras.

Zenon Jepras was born in 1969 in Wales to Greek parents from Cyprus and Corfu. Consequently, he is the most famous Welsh-Greek artist in Cyprus. After reading Physics at University College London, he studied painting at Glasgow School of Art  and Cultural theory at Goldsmiths College, London. He lives and works in London.

Jepras is a storyteller who has come to dig into our past, to record our recollections and reconstruct them in order to offer us a form of archaeology of memory. Each work holds clues to deeper personal and social narratives, like skeletons hidden in the closet. His characters often take the form of animals for satirical effect; thus creating an ‘alternative world’ that serves to undermine socially dominant forces. What is particularly interesting is that his work is reminiscent of the post-expressionist movement of New Objectivism that emerged in the Weimar Republic of Germany and ended with the rise of Hitler to power. As George Grosz, Jepras turns his satirical eye towards what has proven to be a kind of hypocritical patriotism; on the ignorance and even indifference of laymen towards what was happening; on the greediness and corruption of the decades that led to the fall. Jepras looks upon his subjects with empathy; with a kind of nostalgia brought to him by his own upbringing as an emigrant; with acceptance and forgiveness. [Εxtract from Effi Kyprianidou]
